There’s just something about fall that I absolutely love. The cooler weather, the changing leaves, all those beautiful fall colors, and finally getting to curl up on the couch under a cozy blanket. Throw in some s’mores around a fire and a good fall candle, and I’m a happy girl!
Now, I’d love to tell you that my house is perfectly decorated for fall, the kitchen is spotless, and we’re spending our evenings relaxing on the couch.
But y’all. That is NOT what’s happening over here. 😂
Between football, volleyball, practices, concession stands, work, and keeping up with four kids, half the time I don’t know whether I’m coming or going. And if we’re being completely real, my house is a wreck right now. I actually have to bribe myself to clean the kitchen by promising myself I can light one of my favorite fall candles when I’m done.
Whatever works, right?!
I think sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to have everything just right. The house needs to be clean, the decorations need to be perfect, and somehow we’re supposed to make all these beautiful memories in between everything else on the calendar.
Well, I’ve got news for you. It doesn’t always work that way, and that’s okay.
I actually have a sign in my house that says our standards for a clean home have lowered with each kid we’ve had. And y’all, it’s the truth! 😂
Don’t get me wrong, I love a clean house and I absolutely love pretty things. But more than anything, I want my home to be a place where my family can relax, laugh, and feel loved. I want people to walk through the door and feel comfortable enough to kick off their shoes, grab a blanket, and stay awhile.
If there’s a pile of laundry waiting on me tomorrow, so be it. The mess isn’t going anywhere!
A Little Fall Decorating (Because I Still Love Pretty Things!)
Now, just because life is a little crazy doesn’t mean I don’t love decorating for fall. In fact, sometimes it’s those little touches around the house that make me smile when everything else feels chaotic.
And can we talk about these pumpkins for a minute?!
I am absolutely in love with them.
The soft cream and beige colors, the delicate floral detailing, and that beautiful vintage-inspired finish. They’re just gorgeous! I love that they’re classic and timeless, not something that’s going to look dated next year.
I’ve always been drawn to home décor that feels collected rather than overly decorated. Pieces that work with what you already have and don’t require you to completely redo your house every time the seasons change.
That’s exactly what I love about these neutral fall pumpkins.
You can group them together on a dining table, tuck one onto a bookshelf, add a few to an entryway, or mix them in with greenery and fall stems. They’re beautiful on their own, too. And because of those soft, neutral colors, they blend right in with so many different decorating styles.
I don’t think decorating for fall has to mean putting pumpkins on every available surface. Sometimes just a few thoughtfully chosen pieces are all you need to make your home feel a little warmer and cozier.
And the best part? These are the kind of decorative pumpkins you’ll look forward to bringing out year after year.
Somewhere Between the Football Games and the Laundry…
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how quickly time is going by.
We already have one off at college, and I seriously don’t know how that happened so fast. It feels like yesterday we were picking out Halloween costumes and getting excited about all the little things that come with having young kids.
Now we’re running from one game to another, trying to keep up with everyone’s schedules, and before I know it, another week has flown by.
I catch myself getting so caught up in everything I need to do that sometimes I forget to enjoy what’s happening right in front of me.
And that’s something I’ve really been trying to work on.
Trusting God through the chaos. Taking things one day at a time. Remembering that just because I didn’t get everything checked off my list doesn’t mean the day wasn’t a good one.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
I’ve always loved that reminder, but I think it means a little more to me these days.
Because the seasons of life really do change, whether we’re ready for them or not. One minute you’re stepping over toys in the living room, and the next you’re helping one of your kids pack for college.
And as much as I complain about the crazy schedules and never-ending laundry, I know there will come a day when I’ll miss some of this chaos.
Maybe not the laundry. But definitely the chaos. 😂
Pretty Things Are Wonderful. But the People Matter More.
I started By Grace & Faith because I genuinely love beautiful things and helping others create homes they love. That hasn’t changed.
But I also believe a beautiful home is about so much more than what’s sitting on the coffee table or how perfectly everything is decorated.
It’s about the people who live there. The memories being made. The laughter, the conversations, and even those messy, ordinary days that don’t seem all that special until you look back on them.
So this fall, put out the pretty pumpkins. Light the candle. Make the s’mores. Curl up on the couch with your family, even if there’s a basket of laundry sitting in the corner.
And please don’t feel like you have to have it all together.
Because if you’re waiting until everything is perfect to enjoy your home, you might be waiting a really long time.
I’m certainly not waiting. And neither should you.
One of these days we’re going to blink, and those little Halloween costumes will be gone. The house might finally be quiet and clean, but I have a feeling we’ll be wishing for just one more of those crazy, ordinary days.
So here’s to cooler weather, beautiful fall colors, a little more grace for ourselves, and making the most of the season we’re in.
And maybe a few really pretty pumpkins, too. 💚
With love,
By Grace & Faith
